First of all, I live in a condo complex and I'm not allowed to dig a bunker. Second, I don't have the available funds to build an effective nuclear bunker even if I could dig. Third, I live within city limits and I highly doubt the zoning laws would permit me to build one.  

 Oh ok. I thought you were doubting the capability of an underground shelter. A blast resistant shelter should be enough if you’re several miles away from the blast. Anything closer and you’re screwed 

 I don't doubt the effectiveness of a properly constructed shelter, just my ability to create one given all the circumstances. I'm right in the middle of two primary targets, so I'm probably just gonna be vaporized. 🤷‍♂️
