an algorithm is just a process which makes a computer do a bunch of work toward achieving a goal

Just make sure when you use algorithms they are IN SERVICE OF YOUR GOALS AND NOT SOME CORPORATION’S GOALS

"let’s make computers do things for us” should not be a controversial statement
 💯
 🙏
While true, you can also just say no to algos if you don’t new a fine tuned stream of addictive content constantly bombarding your brain.

I don’t think this is a controversial statement either.
The algo could be to minimize the time spent and not maximize it for selling time to advertisers.
“give me a feed of boring stuff i’ll hate” 😝
sure, but algos don’t have to be addictive. e.g. i’d like to try an algo that’s like “catch me up on any notes written about topics X, Y, Z that have received at least 1 zap from someone I follow or have zapped in the past”
Problem with using zaps is that they are unverifiable, except for the sender and receiver. Reactions, reposts, comments from with WoT could be another way. I do like the idea of catching up after some time away. It's too bad zaps are unverified, otherwise it could be useful for outside a WoT system and useful for discovery. An invite system into Nostr may help bootstrap a WoT for those that are new, the invite could include a suggested follow list and notes to view and possibly interact.
 ah, good point

Just wondering out loud… if something like a verifiable zap could be done, would it be a good idea? I can see pros/cons. But seems like a lot of pros around WoT as you mentioned as well as identity-establishment/information quality.

I understand zaps are private, but just spitballing… seems like if sender/receiver/clients wanted to make it reported/verifiable somehow that might be possible? solutions might touch DLCs, inscriptions or an entirely new technology
Technically, we all develop our own personal algorithms, called habits... and definitely in creating habits that work towards achieving a goal that's healthy, is a healthy algorithm 😀
