 I'll explain this post.

The reason why people don't have nostalgia over recent touhou games is because is became times have changed.

Let's go back to when touhou 6 was first released, the year 2002. Does anybody remember 2002? They way people bought and consumed media back in 2002 was very different than today's standards. In western countries touhou wouldn't have been known until 2003-2004 when there was more of a larger push of awareness of touhou games.

For many people touhou was their first experience with a "bullet hell" game. They were very rare to play in arcades at the time. Then there was a period of time in 2010 when a lot of bullet hell games were available. Even if bullet hell is still rare the games feel a bit "common" now. You're just not going to experience the same feelings you get playing the games now than in the mid-2000s

@:back_from_gab: :musashi_berseker: :abigail_willia... There could've been proper revisits/remasters of the very first Touhou games. Highly Responsive to Prayers, being the very first of those Touhou games, truly deserves this, even if it's just Jap Breakout plus bullet hell.

@:back_from_gab: :musashi_berseker: :abigail_willia... are people finally realizing that nostalgia isn't for the thing itself but the time they discovered the thing? doesn't matter what it is it brings you back to that time
@:back_from_gab: :musashi_berseker: :abigail_willia... many of the nostalgic feelings come from the time you had and the experiences you had when you first played a particular game.
I will never re-experience the joy I felt playing Mario 64 and learning how to deal with the N-64 contoller and gaining mastery over the game, the console and the controller.
I will never have that feeling again because I am no longer experience anything new and I am not the innocent and ignorant kid I was back then.
I've realized I have become quite good in Command & Conquer games now that I am way older than when I first played them however the feelings are not there, still enjoy the game but I can never laugh the same way looking at engineers bursting in flames the same way, having electrocuted doggies and having cruisers tearing civilians apart.
You have to understand that certaing things were cool and amazing because of what they made us feel and what we learned in the time we experienced it. We changed and things will never be the same and cannot be the same, the more you accept this, the more you will enjoy your nostalgic games.
With Age of Empires 2 I don't feel nostalgic at all, the game is pretty much in my present.
@:back_from_gab: :musashi_berseker: :abigail_willia... didn't realize the damage caused at the time, but when iosys did their thing all the normalfags flooded in and made everything a meme and killed the aesthetic

nobody can be cool anymore, they must all be flying memes. mysterious puppeter? ok ur a raging lesbo. stoic gardener swordsman? no ur a dork now. classy lunatic princess? here's a tracksuit and a computer. not to say the depictions didn't exist prior to the meme explosion but there was a balance instead of everything being in your face

and zun of course did the logical thing and rolled with it, so newer characters are designed with ease of meme in mind and lack nuance in comparison to the older character designs
@:back_from_gab: :musashi_berseker: :abigail_willia... i just like the lore and the fan art. bullet hell games are too autistic for me. i play for like 3 minutes then i'm done
