This has bothered me for a while. Fine do your international missions, but you need to help your local community too. One of the mega churches near me has not hardly done any local work since 2020. They send people to other countries all the time. Two homeless shelters within a couple blocks and they don't help. I was talking with a couple elders in that church a few weeks back who have an issue with it as well and many are leaving the church. It's sad. My old church did the same thing too. This will change as the economy worsens though.
It is one of the biggest things I have noticed because the church I have been going to for almost a year is constantly obsessed with missions to other nations but still clueless on the basics of soteriology as they backload the gospel with works. It’s a disgrace (literally). I don’t go much anymore, and there aren’t many good churches in my area. I am hoping to move states within the next year, I pray that I can get that community that you are referring to. That’s what it’s all about, and that truly is the backbone of nations (or at least, it should be).
