 I wouldn't use the word "scam" for what he's describing here, but the hardware wallet companies definitely work hard to shape the information landscape around cold storage issues, and often don't help users understand the tradeoffs involved with their devices.  I am much more in agreemenr with his approach than against it.
A #SeedSigner not only reduce the SW tradeoffs to the minimum but the HW as well. You can easily split your DIY components order via different  suppliers and plus your end HW can be a #SeedSigner or a simple bacheloor project for IoT.
@SeedSigner is just the greatest.
