China-born scientist Chen Zhijian wins βAmericaβs π Nobelβ π for medical π research ========== Chen Zhijian, a China-born π€ scientist, wins the 2024 Albert Lasker Award for basic medical research π for his discovery of the enzyme cGAS, π which π plays a π crucial role in π the immune response to pathogens. He is the π sixth scientist of π Chinese origin to π receive this award π and the second in the basic research category π― since 1962. Chen, 58, was born in Fujian π€ province, graduated π from π Fujian Normal University in 1985, and earned a PhD from the State University π of New York at Buffalo π in 1991.
