For too long the craft of trust and safety has been hidden behind the closed doors of big companies that own and run centralized social media platforms. The promise of social media protocols isn’t that the work will disappear, but that it’ll be community controlled and users will have agency to decide what system they want to use for their social media.

To make that work, IFTAS has been opening up and making transparent and participatory social media moderation on protocols. It gets us out of the way in which Mastodon and the fediverse has operated in a way which as opaque as corporate platforms.

IFTAS has launched a really great library of materials documenting the work for everybody to be able to see and understand.

Why not just use unpermissioned social media? we don't need moderation. we need freedom.
Simple. He doesn't believe in freedom.
I guess some users want moderation and so there is opportunity for some devs to provide it.
This is amazing. Thank you for sharing
