I've had sinus issues FOREVER, and believe it or not, you used to be able to walk in a pharmacy here in the USA and just buy decongestants with pseudoephedrine in them (the ONLY ones that decongest REALLY well - you can FEEL it decongesting). They WORKED. 

Then, assholes started buying mass quantities of Sudafed etc because of meth labs, so the companies started putting it behind the counter and limited its sale. Now, to get it, you have to show your ID and give your signature. 

So what did the pharma companies do? They flooded the market with this "alternative" in their "decongestants", this "phenylephrine". Companies that made Sudafed etc just SWITCHED the chemical in the pills. And I noticed they didn't work. 

And guess what. 

Phenylephrine doesn't decongest. They just confirmed it. 

This happens ALL the time. People are legitimately using a helpful product, there's this media craze about something, and it screws everything up for the people the product was helping. 

Insanity.
