 Well they helped fill isis ranks I believe and were the Mujahideen offspring from Afghanistan

 Rewind in history, the CIA armed the Taliban because they were fighting Soviet occupation in Afghanistan and the US we trying to keep communism in check at all costs. And then a few short decades later… oopsies, 9/11!

 They were also doing it to try and break the USSR because it's a resource quagmire and we knew that. Then we turned around and did it to ourselves, with some of the same people holding positions of power that were in and orchestrated, managed, controlled the fight of the Muj against the USSR.
