The problem with today's society is there is too much tolerance
meh... IDK. If you live in the USA we have a history of tolerance. Did you know that the Nazi Brownshirts used to march in the parades in NYC before WW2. I could go on but I think you have the cart before the horse. Allow as much diverse thinking as you like but stay away from the children.
But I'm a natural born killer! Society needs to tolerate my murders. It's my identity. Don't deny me my existence! You genocide me if you don't let me genocide you. joking aside for a moment ... clearly there are limits to what sort of things someone should tolerate. I think we can tolerate all kinds of sexuality (being that's kind of a private thing). But which things should not be tolerated? Burning down court houses, censoring speech, violating the law and not be prosecuted, forced vaccinations? Anything you were thinking of in particular?
What good requires tolerance? Tolerance is to tolerate evil; be it aggression, theft, abuse, lies, or anything else. To be tolerant is to be a cowardly pushover. Stand up for your self, your wife and your children. You now possess the most powerful weapon against evil man has ever known: Uncensorability #bitcoin #nostr
I guess I don't see the world in terms of good and evil. I tolerate my dog barking at night. I'm glad my neighbors do too. Not everything in life pleases me, and I tolerate almost all of the things that don't please me. Tight parking lots with barely enough room to turn. Supermarkets that don't stay open 24 hours. I tolerate them because I've learned to pick my battles. Anyhow, not sure I really wanted to dig deep here, just asked the question that popped into my mind.
I tolerate high tax rates to afford free (hospitalised) healthcare, or taking care of the sick or disabled. One could argue that is good, and one could argue it may cause stress on others. There’s one example for you of something that is good and requires tolerance, please put a little more thought into your next posts!
Tax is theft. I tolerate it because the alternative is death. I tolerate being bound and gagged while someone rifles through my house, not because this person is performing a necessary service to his children but because I have been cornered and deceived. No good comes of theft. To accept government services is to steal from the public. You may benefit from death and theft, but this can't be called good.
Well, that is certainly a point of view. Not a good one though. I was suspicious that you may have thought like this however, hence why I used tax in my example
Many people may do better with passive avoidance than active confrontation. The former is actually not difficult
Intolerance does not equal confrentation. It has more to do with rejecting nihelism and not understanding and defending your own beliefs and values. Allowing your neighbor's dog to bark without you mentioning because you want your own dog to bark is not tolerance, this is a shared culture. If you stole your neighbor's dog in the middle of the night and drove it a thousand miles away in hopes he will never return, this is not standing on principals, its agression. If your neighborhood collectively does not want chickens, and someone with a different culture moves in and has chickens, now everyone is listening to roosters and dealing with rodents, the solution is not to kill the chickens or to force the person out, but its also not to tolerate it if it effects you. There are ways of dealing with minor problems that don't involve threats of violence and theft.
Passive avoidance can be securing your space against rooster weilding agents or any other agent of undesirable elements. What one considers "their own space" is relative, but it needn't be the whole world, there's plenty of physical space available.
