I think micropayments are a useful feature to have in a social media protocol as long as they’re not the central thing. Some protocols like Lens and Farcaster make them much more central and it ends up feeling like a casino.
There’s also some scuttlebutt about if lightning is the best option, I’m not enough in to the details to answer that question, but some combination of ecash/cashu + lightning might make sense. We’ve got to figure it out. There’s an issue where there doesn’t seem to be a lot of options for custodial easy to use lightning wallets that support NWC. Alby does but they’re having struggles with issuing / managing wallets in a way that works for them with compliance. The other option is Strike which works if you’re Primal and can make it a major priority, but isn’t viable for anybody else in the Nostr ecosystem because it’s hard to setup and the cost of running it is well beyond that of most Nostr app projects.
