I will not play WoW again. I will not play WoW again. I will not play WoW again. nostr:nevent1qqsxdt8xyv9cla0qth6xskwepk05j0d65q3e3yrg9e3x8z34gvxafvspz3mhxue69uhhyetvv9ujuerpd46hxtnfdupzqvhpsfmr23gwhv795lgjc8uw0v44z3pe4sg2vlh08k0an3wx3cj9qvzqqqqqqyv3kvwg
I'm really glad that the one MMO that I got super sucked into is no longer available, although I do miss it terribly. RIP Tabula Rasa.
I never heard of that... To Google!
Its leveling system was really dope because it was sci-fi based. Anytime you made a major class decision, you got a clone of your character to try out the different branches that were available to you after your upgrade. So like everyone starts out as the same base class but then you can branch off depending on your skill choices. Like say you wanted to do AoE tanking and you didn't like it you could switch to a different style of tank with your clone. Also, the PvE was really awesome. It was set in a war zone where you're fighting against an evil alien coalition, of course, that you would have to fight over control for bases on. So there were some dedicated human bases that could never be taken over, but if you happen to log out in one of these bases that you fought for control over, you could log out and log in, in the middle of enemy territory if the base had been taken over.
That aside, Minecraft still gets its hooks into me.
Literally, a mining game 😂
ChromieCraft ftw.
Chromie as in Chronormu from the Bronze Dragonflight? I used to kite her all the way from CoT to Org back in the day 😂

Nope free to play private WoW server based on WoTLK run very well with a huge active community, and several tweaks that are very nice.
Nice. I played on a few unofficial servers back before Classic launched.
Bring on linux helps avoid re-addiction.
I can confirm. I didn't play Overwatch for a year because of Linux 😂

"Maybe I'll just check out this private server...." 2 weeks later https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=mLyOj_QD4a4
I've played on a few of the private servers 😂 I even ran one for some friends before classic launched.
Made the mistake of playing valheim last winter. It'll be less immersive i said. I'll just play solo I said its a SHAME that a 12 gig card should never ever play a game i said. So i loaded up steam on linux workstation fast forward hundreds of hours and broken single player only promise. Deleted steam. I am an addict. I cant even have a taste.
I've played about 18 MMOs. Never found my ideal one, always hoped the next one would be it. But I intentionally avoided WoW because based on player feedback I knew it wasn't the kind of game I was looking for. The ones I liked the best were Eve Online (no other game has been able to replicate the complex and deep PvP this game has) and Vanguard Saga of Heroes (just because I found great friends there) I played these: DikuMUD, GemStone IV, Achaea, Ultima Online, EverQuest, Eve Online, EverQuest II, Guild Wars, Lord of the Rings Online, Vanguard: Saga of Heroes, Darkfall, Mortal Online, Rift, Star Wars: The Old Republic, Guild Wars 2, Black Desert Online, Elder Scrolls Online, Crowfall, Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen (in alpha) I've heard good things about Dark Age of Camelot and Runescape and I kinda wish I had played them. Maybe I will.
How was eso ?
Not memorable enough for me to say. I think I remember it, but nothing about it stood out to me as a feature I liked.
Wow. I've only ever played WoW. I tried Final Fantasy but after a week I said this is dumb I just should go back to what I know 😂
Very few people know about DikuMUD. 🎉😁
It might have been CircleMUD now that I do some research. I remember beastly fido, the janitor, Midgaard, shireiffs, colored stones that if you picked up they negatively impacted your max health or max carrying capacity (they didn't explicitly say they were cursed). Grouping with people for the first time in my life and going into high level places where I would easily die if I were alone. In 1992 me and 3 other students tried to build a graphical MUD we called Iliad in our professors parallel language called SR for college credit as an advanced special projects class. We never achieved anything playable. I remember Ultima Underworld was released during that time and we were drooling over it. GemStone was a commercial MUD that I played with the zMUD client (I think, could be confusing this with Achaea). It had a cool experience absorption mechanic. You absorbed experience slower than you received it, and if your short-term experience buffer filled up it overflowed and was wasted. So you had incentive to do things other than fighting. You could be injured (lose an eye, an arm, etc) and need a healer or by from a food vendor a special herbal remedy, it wouldn't just recover on it's own.
I also remember making nice friends on Ultima Online. There's now an open source client
I remember putting a battery on the F4 key and going to sleep, and waking up with max strength. I also remember not being able to leave my starting city without being insta-killed. After trying a lot of ways to make it out of the starting city alive and failing every time, I gave up and stopped playing UO.
Now that we have AI, the most expensive part of building an MMORPG will be done by AI. So instead of having 3 developers and 20 artists, there will be 3 developers and 2 AI operators.
art has always been the bane of my gamedev existence. I was buying art from gamedev art markets. Now i can just generate it and tailor it to my game. Still waiting for a low poly ai model generator though.
I'm guessing these kinds of things are being built somewhere. First commerically but eventually in open source. I've always been interested in the game mechanics side of things. Like having a 'recognition' skill and that floating name over people's heads might be wrong if you don't recognize them... or if they run off screen and come back you don't even realize it is the same person, and a disguise skill. Or an amulet that records and reports murders and auto-updates your guilds standing against other guilds. Shit like that. I'm barely getting started. I have 129 git repos of private game development stuff.
Lets go gank some n00bs.
