What the shit, Google? Google Messages now shares your location data with third parties, if you have location data enabled.

 😂😂😂🤡🤡🤡
Love how all this shit is always Opt-Out, instead of Opt-In.
 It's not always opt-out.

### Drop Big Tech. Run FOSS.

- Use DeGoogled or Linux phones
- Run Linux laptops
- Self-host your own Nextcloud online ecosystem

👆
They all work together and sync beautifully over your Nextcloud server.
 Yes indeed.
This is all a huge mess actually. Android got much better controlling these permissions, including to regularly restrict them for apps not used but still ... I like sharing my location with friends and family and the only tool that really works for that is WhatsApp. But I do not like to share my location with Facebook but even if the messages are (supposedly) end-to-end encrypted, I'm pretty sure the location ends up on servers or ... what do I know? How can I know?

Even if I figure it out, how would that scale? 95% of people couldn't care less if their phone broadcasted their location 24/7. They would get angry for a second and share a rant but then continue accepting it.

Now there you see something about a third party ... this is information that you would not get if the provider of the product wouldn't tell you. I assume that any data leaving my device gets into the wrong hands eventually. If not by standard procedure then it still can get there through hacks or the DB admin selling it.
right. you can't choose one or the other. it's all or none. not good.
Third party = 3 letter agencies and UN / WEF contact tracing databases so they can lock you down commie style.
I switched to pulse sms a while ago. Glad I did because the lifetime subscription costs a lot more now than it used to and pulse just works flawlessly on all my devices.
Meanwhile, in recent developments on the Tim Apple messaging app, opsec is increasing 😏 https://support.apple.com/en-mide/HT213465
that's something that apple is doing right. it's too bad they control everything else inside their ecosystem.
Temporal #nfts are a good bridge to support #bitcoin
Give purpose to it, a meaning where there is no understanding lacking to put pressure on bitcoin to perform miracles, there are machines for that.

💡
Why iCloud Keychain? Syncing keys never seemed like a good idea.
 Believe what you may.

The only real solutions are DeGoogled phones and Linux phones, running nothing but FOSS apps, syncing to your own Nextcloud online ecosystem.

DeGoogled phones run great!

Linux phones and DeGoogled phones are all I've been running for a couple of years now.
I choose to make some trade offs and not be maximally paranoid 🤷🏻. I accept the risks and any told-ya-so moments in the future.
I used to run defoogled and FOSS, but it's just a huge pain in the ass and the experience just isn't as good. I too except the trade offs for a better mobile experience.
Google has IM now? I never even noticed.
 Yes. RCS.
 I thought that wasn't new?

 @MetropleX [GrapheneOS] ⚡🟣 Not a problem for y'all, correct?
We don't ship Messages so no. People choosing to use it should be aware of permissions they grant it, whether they enable Location in the user it is installed and whether they turn off our default location rerouting to OS API (GPS/GNSS based) in favour of Googles network location provide if they do enable it.
Should also be noted SMS with or without RCS should still be considered a legacy communication method and only used where necessary.

Legacy calls and texts should be avoided as they're not secure and trust the carrier / network along with having weak security against other parties.

Our recommendation is still to get as many of your contacts as possible to use Signal or other non-carrier-based communication apps using the signal protocol/secure E2EE encryption. It is why we don't give the stock AOSP Messeging app much attention to encourage people away from using it.

I mean, this is their privacy grab on gmail...
