Has anyone ever used those Chinese retro game console box things that have like 100,000 games on it from all the old consoles? (I heard they can be majorly janky and people recommend using a raspberry pi to put together your own emulator instead. I can't do this tho lol)

Yes I tried one of the ambernic ones that resembles a gameboy with trigger buttons I bought it from ambernic directly (as direct as possible anyway) and it didn't come with any games I had to supply them. People try to sell the same thing with their own ROM collection preset up with Temu, AliExpress, or tiktok shop but that looks so sketchy. Hardware on the ambernic is legit tho
Best non-janky option is Analogue Pocket, but it's way overpriced, and has d-pad cardinality issues. But it is still really good. FPGA > Emulation. https://www.analogue.co/pocket?origin=serp_auto
weird chinese gameboy emulator devices are cool, but after a certain price point it makes more sense to purchase a controller accessory for your smartphone instead. I wouldn't pay more than $60 for one of them and for whatever it can't do I'll just use my phone. you don't get good compatibility with dreamcast, ps2, or gamecube until you hit around the $100 mark.
This guy gives pretty good reviews. You can get games from archive.org ☠️ I've got a Modded Switch, it plays up to the PS1 & N64 era great, and some Dreamcast games too.
