the Pathfinder Beginner Box is actually almost identical to a D&D Beginner Box that I ran for some friends a long time ago, down to the mini-dragon at the end of this book, and in that adventure the cleric was, indeed, rendered into a fine goo, although, in the game's defense, it does provide an obvious out in the treasure

the other chump kill is a trap that's so Very Obviously a trap that if you fall for it, even as a beginner, that's on you

One of the reviews for a Krynn adventure that I read a while ago had every trap's damage stated in multiple's of the party wizard's health. Like, this breath attack is 3 wizards strong, or, this pitfall deals 2 wizards worth of damage on average.
