Mad Max is an Australian classic. #3 Beyond Thunderdome has some economic and rules threads that are interesting.
Personally, Jeff VanderMeer is one of my favorite authors. Especially if you like the nature theme and the weird fiction genre, you can give Annihilation a chance. However, the movie and the book are different in many ways. Also, the post-apocalyptic theme may not appeal to everyone.

You can also check out Borne and other works by the same author.
