@32351832 voters are not "spoiled brats", most are genuinely desperate to have a quality of life, and the society that we built for them requires use of a car, thus making gas prices an inelastic part of their budget.
The key is to communicate that the risks from climate crisis are more hurtful than expensive gas, and to provide a society that allows freedom from cars. Good luck finding that message in the mainstream news, though.
@bc697b09 @32351832 If it's just about the use of a vehicle, why are people driving cars way, way bigger than necessary, especially in the US where your SUVs are about twice the size of those in Australia?
@0177da18 @32351832
Because that is what is marketed to them. And because if the other cars on the road are bigger, its safer for the occupants to also have a bigger heavier car. Of course this is very bad for many reasons.
@bc697b09 @32351832 When you say "marketed to" are you saying consumer preference has nothing to do with what sells? Don't companies do market research to find out what consumers want?
