In the 1950s when my dad was 5, before starting school, he taught himself to multiply double-digit numbers together by counting the holes in both directions on a window screen. He would melt down if different types of food touched each other on his plate. He was brilliant to the point of perpetual academic boredom, and absolutely incapable of staying focused in classroom settings. #Neurodivergence is totally a new phenomenon though.
