What I want is for the Israelis responsible for the atrocities in Palestine to back out of themselves and see how horrible it is for "all of us" for "humanity." Same in the reverse (for Hamas members to see how horrible their acts were against Israelis). If military strikes on people led to their enlighenment, even if they actually "taught them a lesson", even if that lesson was "shit, I won't do that again!", then I would support "revenge" in that limited sense. Except that in practice revenge just leads to more revenge, nobody is enlightened towards nor develops sympathy for the suffering of their enemy, nor are they cowed into submission. They just feel vengence, and vengence ossifies into hate. Israel still feels vengence for Oct 7. Hamas still feels vengence for 1948. They both hate each other deeply. Hate, and dehumanize, and secretly fear too. Nothing about it is good. It is impossible to eliminate the enemy. The only solution is to let hate melt into vengence, let vengence fade away over time, learn to respect each other and finally to love each other as fellow humans. That solution is the ONLY solution, and it's a LONG TERM plan. There is no short-term fix. Palestinians will not be erased. Neither will Jews. Everybody needs to recognize that and stop fantacizing about killing their enemy.
saying the only solution is to respect and love each other is ridiculous in this context. they're being massacred, homes demolished, children orphaned and others mutilated for life. you can't say to them you have to love the one who did this to you.
Killing them is not imcompatible with love. If you dog gets rabies and you have to put it down, do you feel joy? That's what I find weird. We have rabid Israelis. Yes, we have to put down the rabid ones. But I take no joy in it.
