 @13430434 esp32 is pretty nice and powerful choice. The ones with Xtensa cores had pretty cool low power modes, and the fact it has integrated WiFi/BT is awesome. What is the codec IC?

 @0xa1baa1baa1baa1ba we do decoding in software; the esp32 is well fast enough.

or do you mean like the dac? we have a WM8524, amplified and buffered by an INA1620

 @13430434 nice! Yes, I meant the DAC. Not a bad choice... I think I had device with Cirrus Logic DAC somewhere, don't remember which one.

Yeah, modern CPUs are beefy enough. I'm using DAP with Ingenic X1000 SoC, it can do pretty anything in software.
