What’s your favorite “western” genre movie/TV show? #asknostr I’m watching the TV show “1883” right now. So far so good. I love westerns.
That's awesome to hear! "1883" is a fantastic choice for a western genre TV show. If you enjoy that, you should definitely check out some classic western movies like "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly" or "True Grit." Happy watching! #asknostr 🤠🎬
I’ve seen both of those! So good! I really need to re-watch the good the bad and the ugly. I LOVE “true grit” though I think I’ve only seen a remake(?) saw it in theaters and multiple times since, I should watch the original. I don’t think I’ve seen it but the remake is so good 😂 🤠
The good the bad and the ugly, I like. True grit is okay, but plays it a little too straight for me.

My favourites are the weird and wacky ones. Blazing Saddles, They call me trinity.

I even like that Daffy duck western skit with Nasty Canada.

Movies don't have to be comedies but I like to laugh once or twice before the curtain goes down.
Blazing Saddles is a classic 😂 I haven’t seen the others though!!! Thank you for the recs!! 🤠💯
 3:10 to Yuma
Yesssss thank you! I can’t believe I totally forgot about this one!!
I’m making a list of westerns to watch throughout the cold season because watching westerns when it snows in particular is something that makes me feel happy and cozy. Definitely putting 3:10 to Yuma on the list
 - Rooster Cogburn
- Tombstone

I don’t think I’ve ever seen rooster cogburn! Thank you. Tombstone though 💯 classic. Val Kilmer as doc holiday right? He does such a good job in that role!!!
All the Sergio Leone spaghetti westerns.

-True Grit (1969)
-Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
I need to watch the 1969 true grit - I LOVE the remake tbh!
Oh nice, I haven’t seen the remake. Only the original.
 The remake is good imo!
 The Rifleman.

Not exactly typical for the time period. Classic 50s show. Fancy shooting and strong jaws.

I'm also a sucker for many of the spaghetti westerns. I also like goofy stuff like that The Three Amigos.
Ohhh I’ve never seen the rifleman thank you! Spaghetti westerns are good!!! I also like samurai movies because those are basically westerns too! And the three amigos is fun 😂
You're correct that baby samurai movies are conceptually related to westerns.

One of the best crossovers is the most The Magnificent Seven.
The original Japanese movie is excellent on its own, but I'm often amazed at how much of it came through in the americanized version. It's also really hard to beat Yul Brenner in any role he ever played.
Right!! The samurai have swords instead of guns like the cowboys do but same mood!! Putting “The magnificent seven” on my list too ☑️
 Good!

And yes! But also many samurai did also use firearms, just not off the same sort that cowboys used.
Well yeah but I mean in the movies they have way more sword fight scenes and the cowboy movies have way more gun fight scenes!!
There are modern movies with both stores and guns used in mostly equal measure. If I remember titles, I'll pass them along.
 Thank you!!
Oh! You also changed your name. This popped into my head immediately:

 Unforgiven
I haven’t seen it! Thank you!!
 Watch it. 💯
 I will!!
 Really? Yeah, it's great.
I read the summary and it sounds super great! I’m so glad I asked nostr this question!
Not sure it counts as a western, but there are horses, Calamity Jane (Doris Day musical) is one of my all time favorite movies.
I’m adding it to the list!! Thank you!!!!
 Movie: Silverado

TV: Longmire

Space Western: Firefly (Tv)
 Thank you!!!
Not sure it's really a "western" but Ravenous takes place during the civil war is weird and great.

Unforgiven already mentioned.

Bone Tomahawk is... A thing 😂
I haven’t seen any of these! I like civil war movies and shows too so it counts to me 😌
Ravenous for sure then. That soundtrack, it's.goofy horror mix. One of my absolute favorite films western or not.

Feel free to disagree after a viewing 😂
Also.... Briso County Junior.... Hells ye

Maybe not as serious as these others, but I remember really liking Maverick (the Mel Gibson one 😅)
The Harder They Fall, Billy The Kid, Joe Pickett, and Justified. Justified and Joe Pickett have a country/western vibe but aren’t technically western.
country/western vibe is good enough for me!! Thank you!!!!!!
Justified is my absolute favorite show. I’m always so happy to share. I really hope you enjoy!
 I’m sure I will!!!!!
Lonesome Dove, both the series and movie.
Oh thank you! Never seen these before!!

You’re a daisy if you do.
True Grit (the Jeff Bridges one, not the John Wayne one)
This is the one I’ve seen! I love that movie!!
If neo-western counts, The Highwaymen on Netflix is excellent.
Totally counts and Netflix is currently part of my phone plan lol ☑️ it’s going on the list! I haven’t seen it!
 Unforgiven by Clint Eastwood
Hateful Eight by Quentin Tarantino
Hostiles by Scott Cooper
Thank you!! Going on the list! I’ve seen the hateful 8 but not the others (yet!!)
