 Sigh...

I met with yet another blockchain, web3, crypto enthusiast yesterday... he works for a software development company that does full stack blockchain development, blah, blah, blah...

But respect, the dude was curious about Ekasi, and made the effort to come to visit, which is awesome!

However, again, he had no idea what lightning is, he operates under the assumption that Bitcoin is too slow for everday transactions, that we need other blockchains to solve that problem, he's entirely unfamiliar with the concept of sats, he thinks only in terms of BTC, he had no idea Bitrefill existed, and he's never bought anything with Bitcoin and was largely unaware that it's possible.

Yet he figured that NFTs could solve loads of problems.

But we had a great conversation, chatted for more than an hour, and he left with a lightning wallet and some sats, ready to start with the basics.

Hyper-bitcoinization has nothing to do with hype.

And everything to do with slow, focused and steady progress.
 #bitcoin is the best Micropayment since #LN introduced… ⚡️
I'm on vacation right now. (Italy).
I checked coinmap.org to see who is accepting here. Showed up in a beach bar. Ordered an espresso and asked for btc payment. Owner said I'm the first in 3 years. Showed me an old bitpay wallet with an on-chain address.
Explained lightning to him and showed him bitrefill.com as well if he wanted to cash out. He was very thankful.
Bitrefill with its vast offerings of giftcards is an underestimated service to orange pill people imho.
 100% yes
 trully, shitcoiners simply don't know

and finding the occasion to even explain it to them is a hard one

Haha hopefully he learned a thing or two from you 😁
 I hope so too
Which companies are paying these people? What problems are they exactly solving
The only problem they are solving is how to waste VC money.
 hows that bad?
I did not say I was.
But if I was to give a reason I would say that I would prefer to see capital being invested in productive businesses that will benefit humanity rather than many of the VC funded scam tokens or bloclchain vaporware we see.
Fair enough, the fault lies on VCs though. Theyre the one who control the current money flow. As long as they want to scam people this will continue. There could be a different narrative shift but requires serious money to fight for whats right and literally 99% dont give a fuck about that and just live to scam the next guy
 this
 we are so early.

as we spend time with these new technologies, we forget that not everybody is actively seeking information about it.

most people don't really understand how email works, just that it does. and his will be true for while still with Bitcoin and it's technologies.

that said, it is important to always explain patiently to people and encourage them to learn more.

things will get better
email is a peculiar example.. most people don't use it unless they must. SMS/WhatsApp/DMs/etc eats most of the typed communication now & email will be forgotten soon enough
I use email for all formal communications where a record of what is said matters, the rest is for more informal coms
same argument applies for those techs, most people don't understand the layers of technology behind the screen of their phones, and the protocols they are built on top of. just that functionalities work. and that is what most people care for.

we must remind ourselves that not everybody is interested in Nostr the protocol.. just in the network effect. if Nostr is in fact the better technology it will attract builders who will use it to build the future of social networking.
Maybe it's time to admit lightning did not deliver on its promises. The lightning whitepaper was more than 100 pages long. Bitcoin's was only 8.

It takes courage to admit you were wrong but in retrospect, the big blockers were right. Blockstream and the corporate money behind them are not our friends.
Logic tends to fail in cults
As convenient as that narrative seems, its riddled with inconsistencies. "Corporate money" is not evil, evil is evil, and goodness always prevails.
Lightning works far better than any other l2 in existence at the moment even if it hasnt full scaled the bitcoin network
Where there is demand for it, it works great. Most people don't care about it enough to learn about it.
Nothing like trusted third party's hey ntwana
 Strange
keep up the great work. blockchain bros don't understand these concepts and they won't until they see communities like yours growing and thriving with bitcoin.
 Many like him.
The typical "Blockchain, not Bitcoin" mindset. Thank you for sharing it.
