@6e5f5e3e heh, speculation on my part, but I'm guessing they were either planning on doing it themselves but ran out of bandwidth, or they were thinking one of the companies that makes quiz show stuff would be able to get a solution together on short notice. There are a few commercial systems that are like 80% of the way there and used for TV, but customization is expensive and slow.
