I just arrived home and my wife tells me we have another note from the teacher of our 6 year old daughter. Currently our daughter is enrolled in higher learning program at her school so it's a mix of all types of little people and personalities. So today they are going over 2D and 3D shapes. My daughter says to her group look I made a Gun. She never pointed the gun at anyone or aimed it. Totally oblivious that people use Guns to hurt people🤦🏿😂Mom and teacher thinks that this is such a big deal. They ask her where she got the idea of shaping her 3D pieces like a gun 🤷🏿‍♂️😂 I have Dad brain so instantly I asked "Did she point this gun at anyone?" Answer is no. My wife says but we all know you're not supposed to use the word gun in school(Im guessing based on the teachers email.) I had never known this to be the case. So I try to explain to my wife you know there are many cases that the word Gun is used and it has nothing to do with someone being harmed or violence. Let's start with the water guns we have all over the backyard that Mom bought her this summer😂 In America do we really need to ask the 6 year old where she got the gun idea from like she had bad intentions? I mean I know much is going on in the world today...but we also need to educate the children correctly and not place certain narratives on their behavior.
I know it sounds crazy to normal parents. There are many kids born with gun use all around them so I’m
Sure that’s why they ask. There have been shootings by 6 year olds who didn’t seem to know what they were doing or know they were hurting anymore e
I understand many perspectives on guns and how they are used . But we have also forgotten how we have normalized guns in many ways in everyday society. Very many valid points. I just felt it was viewed and explained to a 6 year old in a totally negative way.
Oh for sure I get that. With the amount of school shootings I’m sure that’s the first thought
Am I understanding this right, your daughter made a gun from 2D and 3D pieces of plastics right?

I think this is mainly an issue for the teacher because your in the US, and you get school shootings so she/ he might be overly sensitive to these things.

What I can tell you is that if this would have happened here, the teacher wouldn’t have even blinked (not in the US), knowing that kids are kids, they play, and experiment without any malice intentions.
Agreed we are in the US. And yes we have some gun issues going on here. 😂 I thought It was a bit comical and hypocritical on my wife's behalf when she went to my daughter like where did you get this from. I'm thinking my wife personally purchases water guns for the kids for the water fights etc etc. Bubble guns etc etc 😂 But I do get it
I think it’s the school context that makes it more sensitive
Agreed. I will be sure to have a more well rounded conversation with the little one.
The little one didn’t do anything wrong, it’s the system created by adults that’s wrong :)
 🎯
yeah some 3d objects blocks etc etc so this probably was an 8 bit version of a gun 😂
 Yeah Minecraft version 😂
 Reminds me of this https://youtu.be/gsJjz1v20qg?feature=shared
😂😂😂😂😂😂 This is it right here. Just showed my spouse
I used to incessantly draw guns in school 😅
I can still remember the smell of the old school cap guns
