to protect creators you give them tools to isolate themselves in echo chamber bubbles.  this grows your platform in size and revenue, with no real discussion happening.  this is how YouTube works with their removal of thumb down counter and ability of creators to remove anybody from their channel's comments.  

the goal of YouTube is waste as much user time as possible on mindless videos that way as many ads can be interspersed in this non-content as possible.  

on other hand to maximize discussion of ideas you remove barriers and 99% of the people flee out of fear, but those people never had any ideas to contribute in the first place.  ideas of the remaining 1% fight each other to the death.
