Of course filtering needs to happen at the relay level (or server side in some manner) BEFORE a shit ton of events are requested.
“Webs of Trust” (AKA : a user’s follow network) is an effective and useful tool for relays to use in this filtering process.
WoT is not “bad and lazy”, but …
- Relays that don’t implement filtering algos are lazy.
- “WoT algos” that ONLY filter for “follows follows” are lazy.
- Relay operators that think “let the clients filter out bots and bad actors” are lazy.
Your argument is lazy simply because you didn’t take the time or effort to clarify. In so doing, you sacrifice the benefit that “follow networks” actually present for relay based filtering.
@straycat and I have talked endlessly about embracing the value of WoT, as it is, to promote relay based filtering. You COULD do the same… everybody wins.
