@7820ff3f You might recall I also have a degree in English literature, and owning the massive set of OED volumes was always something I wanted when I was young, so this satisfies that.
@90431d67 @7820ff3f what’s the etymology of etymology? #scnr
@be3304e1 @7820ff3f Well… that’s easy if you know Latin and Greek roots, but specifically in English, it’s borrowed from French. 😁 https://www.oed.com/dictionary/etymology_n
@90431d67 Makes sense, thanks! Though, i will say, those big tomes also have some appeal if you've got the right spot in your house for them.
@7820ff3f Honestly, they’re a bit outdated now, but they would make for nice decoration. The online database is constantly updated, and they call out differences between versions/updates, too, which is nice.
@90431d67 @7820ff3f one of my English Major dreams was to have a set as well. I satisfied that need right before the pandemic with a birthday purchase of a used 2-volume compact set. It needs a magnifying glass. https://media.phpc.social/media_attachments/files/111/032/334/681/092/836/original/c6ae32e156fdc3de.png
