I really really can’t stand the shitfluencer ratio 😭 But what’s worse is that (at least on X) the algorithm penalizes following more than 50% of your own followers!

It really is tbh. Probably a countermeasure to bots and low quality follow for follow spam… but there has to be a better way. Too many real and talented users talking to the void on all of these mainstream platforms 😅

150 is okay. Some npubs have like 1-10. 😂 May as well be bots and many probably are. Or some marketing department or whatever.
I read a study back in like…. 2008? About how more than 150 connections essentially make you shallow. It was a warning against Facebook as I recall. I’d like to find it again to see how much truth there is to it.

I've been holding back on the follows for the sake of "curating my feed for signal" but I think I've gotten to the stage now where I'm ready to broaden my horizons. Any recommendations to sift through the noise once I've got a butt ton of follows?

Content doesn't become amazing just because it's transmitted as a note by relays. Besides, with options to view follows, network, and global, it all becomes irrelevant. You curate lists, of which 'following' is just one. It'll sort itself out.
