 grief is a universal experience

 What is the story?
My old cat died. My young cat stayed close while I was digging. When I placed the remains, he came & sat down next to me. He sat until I was done filling the hole. I placed the stones & he laid down on top of them. He stayed there while I cried, which made me cry more. I got myself together and put away my tools. He was still there, so I took a few pictures. Then I walked away. He got up and followed me to the house.

They were buddies. I'd taken them both in as kittens of a stray. My old cat was my original misfit. He was cool. He had a birth defect that made his pupils different sizes. He liked to chase a football & hang out in the garden with me. He took to his new companion like he was a father. It'd been clear for a few days that it was almost time. My little guy made it all a much more emotional experience. I was as prepared as possible for everything but that.

Thank you for asking.
