Oddbean new post about login | logout I can take all manner of criticism when it comes to my art. I usually learn and improve my work. But a recent comment from a nostrich, "Your art is boring.", has me genuinely stumped. I paint for my own joy. If someone else likes my work? Wonderful. Don't like abstract art? That's all good too. But boring? I see this as a challenge. Just unsure how to incorporate excitement into my art. #artstr

Abstract art is fun! It gives the viewer the most freedom to interpret the art to their liking. If it's boring to them it usually says more about the viewer than the artist. Idk. Still-It's fun when a criticism adds fuel to the fire! Oh YEEEE! Saying "it's boring" is also a boring critique. Have them elaborate at least. 😂🤙🏽💯 Not that they need to or anything.

Your art is NOT boring to everyone. Not everyone likes dark chocolate Not everyone likes wine Not everyone likes dark chocolate with wine. If it makes you happy, thats the beauty of art. You can not make everyone happy but you can make yourself happy.

Most comments to this note are trying to pump you up or shit talking the critic. Personally, I would try to engage with the critic in dialogue so that you can better understand their perspective. There is no right or wrong. You might not get anything out of the conversation, but if you do then I'd call that treasure.
Honestly, if someone else finds it boring, too bad for them. Do what brings joy to you
Art is, and always will be, about it's creator. Always look to improve but don't ever stop being yourself 💚

Motivate yourself with people who really value your art and abstract yourself from the comments, which do not reflect your inner energy. In a universe that no one is satisfied even with their own lives, making the lives of others equal to hers or his (I don’t know), is dopamine to them.
