Anyone who regularly uses drugs and/or alcohol during the developing teen years stunts their emotional growth, resulting in the inability for critical thought as an adult.
Studies have been done on this, and it can literally be tracked in the brain.
The stunting is visible.
It's sad that so many are driven to this by external influence.
It damages them and, as a result, society in general.
