When you run your own node and build up channels over time it gets more reliable. I love my LN node. It’s my own little payments node in cyberspace. I use it for the damus merch store, my zaps, I have it generating ledger-cli reports. It’s pretty fucking based.
For issues at this scale for being used for 5 years… it could be a lot better user experience… Me personally… nothing but issues. I like the idea of LN but it’s got a long way to go… if it doesn’t get surpassed by better technologies. Maybe I need to try a different implementation as you mentioned in another note? But I’ve got a bad taste in my mouth after trying to run my own LN node.
did you do a lot coding & debug maintaining your node?
I never touch my node. I occasionally close channels to pay the bills
Do you mind sharing? What hardware are you using to run your node? Do you have a separate node just for core?
Its just a linux machine at my house. Runs bitcoin-core and cln. I have it doing sqlite replication to two separate drives, no fancy raid setup or anything.

I largely only see stuck payments when probing. Force closes sadly are still a thing mostly when (a) routing a lot with HTLCs that get stuck cause of lnd 16.0-16.2 nodes or the new lnd hang with hodl invoices or (b) nodes that give nonsense feerates and leave you either insecure by accepting it (lnd does this) or force-close (others do this).
Maybe just lnd problems. CLN has been super reliable.
If you have an lnd peer you can also see it. Sadly the feerate issues are only half lnd’s fault, half bitcoin core, so other nodes can also exhibit it.
