 Maybe it's just the community I'm in, but the best firearms experts I've met have also been the best martial artists. Fighting is fighting whether your weapons are fists, arms, or firearms. I believe in learning to fight barehanded before venturing into weapons because it builds a disciplined mindset and sets a baseline for when you inevitably lose the weapon.

But fighting on the ground is for weebs. Great way to get killed. 
 Yes I never said you shouldn't need to learn fighting. It's a very important skill to have to your point.  
 The military trains hand to hand for a reason. Guns fail. Guns run out of ammunition. 
 Yea but they don't run their hand first and then go to the gun. It's the opposite way.  
 With them it's always tools first, hands as a backup, but back to tools asap.
