 The glass bottom boat analogy works for me, another spin: legacy social media are all walled gardens, noster is a blimp surveying it all from above. Needs work… 

 It's to explain relays. But what I see managing servers for a long time and giving accounts to friends and families is that with relays they don't need me to create accounts, reset passwds anymore. And I can't delete an account if I fight with some friend or whatever. 

 What I mean is that it's much better than the fediverse, because on fediverse people still depend on some servers. 

 Right - it’s a little hard for people to grasp that this isn’t like mastodon or discord. But that’s the key difference - decentralized, user-controlled.
