The operating systems (OS) community is facing a significant challenge, according to Timothy Roscoe, a Full Professor at ETH Zurich. In his recent keynote address at the OSDI conference, Roscoe argued that OS researchers are neglecting the impact of modern hardware on their designs. He emphasized that good OS design has always been driven by underlying hardware, but the current state is vastly different from what it was 10 years ago, let alone in the 1960s when Unix was written.
