Expecting everything to work for free is like expecting communism to work.

It isn’t sustainable *at scale* without WoT relays, and even then… the costs will rise when there are hundreds of millions of users storing notes+multimedia+repos.

Paid models with Lightning will come. @HORNETS will help deliver that — a few things are in the works currently by @Siphiwe. I just hope other client devs push for it too.

 @NVK splits percentage would be nice. Splitting the zaps with the Damus devs is fine too (the way Damus currently is), but give the relays some love too. 💜 

 Why do relays need zap-splits? 
Their offer is actually scarce (unlike content, software, etc...).
They can set prices.

If you provide commodity relays and you'll get commodity prices, of course.
Cater to niches and you''l get niche prices.

 Just thinking zap splits could be a cool way to support free relays as a tip for their altruism…
