Hereby declared that Latvian people can no longer speak their own language. 🤣
i love the russian (and bulgarian) word for "nation"

нация

Nazi ya

for those who don't know the phonetics of cyrillic

the word for "country" however is different, "strana" which is also the word for "side" and related to the word for strange "stranno" - indeed, you will often hear all over eastern europe in bad english refer to foreigners as "strangers" "stranats"

also, the german letter Z is the same as that funny U looking symbol above, and pronounced the same as ZZ in pizza

in germany "socialist" is pronounced "TSO-TSYAL-IST"
In Latvian it’s “nācija” for “nation”, “valsts” for “country”, “sociālists” for “socialist”.
ass nazi is pretty much hilarious though

never looked into the baltic languages, they seem superficially like latin/nordic style
hm trying to think of what 'valsts' is reminding me of...

ok there is 'fast' as in german and english for a hold, ah yes...

darzhava, to use typical crappy bulgarian latinization, "durzh-" (държ-) (dursh) to hold

that was tickling my brain all evening since you posted it
I’m not 100% sure, but Latvian “valsts” could be related to “valdīt”, which means “to rule”. In Lithuanian it’s “valstybė”.
Because it has "nazi" in the phonetic spelling? How quaint.
