It's like forums & image hosting and other software. Everyone runs out and setups one up just to try it out, for fun, practice their sysadmin skills or many other reasons. Many don't know how to code so they can't progress further than that. Same thing is happening with mastodon. There is some serious relay operators here who know how to code themselves like 'nostr.band' or 'nostr.wine' relays or they have deep pockets to hire a team. I actually haven't seen too many paid relay websites but the ones I have seen, I can't find the price or other UX problems on their websites. I'm not too worried or concerned since nostr is quite new. Eventually we will see some relays established. The 'nostr.band' website already says they are free for now until the find a way to make money. I have no issue paying for paid relays. In fact I would prefer to only have paid relays because paid relays don't have spam issues but there isn't a list of paid relays with prices anywhere. It's not a big deal if the admin of the relay is learning. I don't care if he can't code. I mostly only care about price of the relay name of the relay icon of the relay and most importantly no spam. but I'm not going to pay a lot monthly for any relay. It's a little bit pricey and I'm just here for fun. Nostr is not essential in my life to justify paying that much money a month. But i do wish there was a list with prices and a bit of information of the relay. It's definitely missing.
