The only game with a really good story to come out in the past few years has been Xenoblade 3, and that's really sad. Even before woke crap took over games, storytelling was always shit. Western games always leaned into the "choose your own adventure" style which led to inconsistent and shallow narratives, while Japanese games for the most part have extremely predictable stories with the same few tropes reused over and over ad nauseum. Why is this the case? What's preventing games from actually telling interesting stories? Ones with nuanced themes and ideas presented in an interesting and thought provoking way.
