There's a decade of gangsterment brainwash that any cryptocurrency is mostly used for crime. Most - including the "sophisticated" blokes - have lives outside the cryptosphere. So, it's sensible for them not to research such things, because any related incentives are lowest priority. "Show me the incentive, and I will show you the outcome."
