The Election Commission has issued notices to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi following complaints filed by the BJP and Congress for alleged violations of the Moral Code of Conduct (MCC). The complaints involve accusations of fostering religious, caste, and linguistic divisions. The Election Commission has invoked section 77 of the Representation of the People Act and has sought a response from Modi and Gandhi by April 29. Both parties have accused each other of indulging in divisive politics. The BJP accused Gandhi of falsely asserting an increase in poverty and perpetuating a division between the North and South of India based on language and region.
