@3967703f 2 GOOD things that this framing unlocks: EMPATHY and AGENCY. 

Empathy to realize that there were people suffering even in the so-called “good times” that many long for (unless we study vastly different societies from our own). And that their suffering was not accidental or incidental but systemic & intentional. 

Agency to realize that there wasn’t a mythical golden age that was lost. Democratic society was always hard work & still is. It’s all up to us.
