 He was not the leader people wanted him to be. 

 Too true. He was a leftist in disguise, once he saw who liked his music he repulsed them himself 

 That song's still an anthem, but this fight will be long and it'll mark a specific period in the midst of this developing storyline  

 Still a great song! It lost its cultural bite when the artist didn’t lean in to it and have tirades against those he identified.
