Flu shots prescribed as surge continues ========== University of Hong Kong pediatric expert Lau Yu-lung advises children and the elderly to get vaccinated against the flu as the surge continues. Hong Kong has recorded around 20 serious cases of children infected with the flu during the current flu season. Lau expects another outbreak of flu B virus this summer or winter and urges the public to be vaccinated, especially for children and the elderly. The vaccination rate among the elderly is only 40 percent and needs to be improved. The Centre for Health Protection reported the first child fatality case this year, with an eight-year-old girl dying after being infected with H1 flu. Another six-year-old girl infected with the virus complicated with brain disease is also fighting for her life. Lau explains that the flu peak continues as two types of Influenza A viruses - H1 and H3 - hit Hong Kong by turns. Lau states that it is hard to predict when the flu surge will end. #FluShots #Surge #Vaccination #Children #Elderly #HongKong https://www.thestandard.com.hk/section-news/section/11/262230/Flu-shots-prescribed-as-surge-continues
