But your premise is flawed, in my opinion.  It doesn’t matter how popular something is.  Governments shouldn’t violate rights

 habeas corpus and presumption of innocence 

 and which countries currently respect those so called rights? what we see in El Salvador is the enforcement of natural law and you can go fuck yourself if you have a problem with it.
