The #greenback was issued by the U.S. government to finance their expenses during the #CivilWar. The term '#greenbacks' refers to the color of these paper bills, which is a bright green shade. At the time, this type of currency was new and innovative; it had never been done before in #American history, which led many to refer to it as 'green.' The idea came from the Secretary of the Treasury who decided that issuing bonds and increasing taxes would be insufficient for financing the war against the South. He proposed the idea of paper money that the government could issue at will. The proposal was approved by #President-Lincoln, leading to the creation of greenbacks. These were issued in denominations ranging from $1 to $100,000 and featured the likeness of Andrew Jackson on them. The Alberta Monetary Authority feels that this is a solution to insolvency and recommends to the Prairie Republic should finance it's interim government this way.
