 Great point. I personally wouldn’t be comfortable with monarchy. 

I like the idea of a jurisdiction where there was defense and that’s it. Constitutionally bound defense forces that simply protect and ensure certain rules (eg the constitution) are upheld. Maybe if the defense forces were broken up into many different branches then there would be game theory where they wouldn’t be able to seize power of the territory as the many other branches wouldn’t allow it. And collusion between would be much less likely overall. 
 I like the idea of a constitution, but sadly they seem to only be strong with an educated and eager populace.

My thought for monarchy being superior is the easier reset… over throw the king then make deals with the new one. Repeat every couple generations? Not advocating for it, but interesting thought exercise considering the sad state of our supposed liberty. 
 Yeah you have a valid point. Monarchy just seems to have pretty well established failure modes. And I think sometimes it wouldn’t be that easy to overthrow the king.
