Anyone who knows me knows I have a strong dislike of planned obsolescence. Everything is increasingly made of garbage and it drives me nuts.
Enter the fountain pen.
To start, they're made to be refilled which means they're too be reused in a way (for a lifetime) that your average ballpoint or rollerball aren't. They're really made to last and I love that.
Second, they write SO NICELY. Their performance is far above mass market pens. As an artist, I've had some nice pens in my life but these outstrip all of them. And these two are beginner pens!
I'm genuinely enjoying writing maybe for the first time in my life and these pens feel like the kind of item worth buying with Bitcoin as they stand the test of time, they are fun to use and they are beautiful to boot.

Yes, but you also need better paper, not the cheap junk, so the whole thing is a much higher quality experience.
I do have better paper, I'm just printing practice sheets on normal paper because that's the loose stuff I've got. I have better notebooks.
And actually, the paper in these photos is a Rhodia 90g/m2 41lb pad. Might be the nicest pad I've ever owned.
Fountain pens are the way 🔥
Just be careful, you might like them so much that you end up with heirloom pens that you'll have to pass on to your grandchildren.

I need every detail of this pen. It is beautiful.
It's the Visconti Homo Sapiens Lava. I saw it at a pen show at a Visconti booth. But it doesn't look like it's available in black anymore online, but in other really nice colors.
I thought that was what it was. I've never seen the black, but then again, I only learned of their existence a week ago.
I do believe I'm gob to need to get my hands on a variant of that pen.
It's a worthwhile pen to have. Extremely satisfying and worth the price unlike a lot of snooty high end pens that are worse than ones you can get under 200.
The lava stone absorbs your sweat as you write and stays cool. The filing mechanism can clean out leftover ink in an empty reservoir completely with enough pumps in water. And the cap's locking mechanism/vacuum seal is the best I've ever seen. The nib is excellent too, but I had to fix mine a little and re-tune it (which I don't recommend doing yourself).
I have been looking into nibmeisters today. There are many in the US and one in Canada so I'll definitely look into some custom grinds at some point.
When I was in school, it was mandatory to use these pens. In the hands of kids they are not so durable! 😅 and we found mischievous ways to abuse the ink cartridges 🤭 happy parents having to wash or replace ink stained shirts.
I mean, that just sounds fun.
If someone is bothering you, just flick the pen in their direction like your casting a spell, a couple of ink splats will fly in their direction 😆 the pen is mightier than the sword 🤣 for a more full on assault grip a fresh ink cartridge beteen your index finger and thumb and squeeze it until it explodes all over your unsuspecting victim... 😅
ArmaLite is mightier than both of those
Woah! I'm talking about pranks... not murder 🤣
It's not murder if they're an enemy of your government😉
That escalated quickly.😐
It went from school prank to school shooting real fast 😧
Right? I think I'm stick with the pranks.
I appreciate your spirit and what is important to you.
When I get into a new hobby, I tend to fall hard. Hahahaha
I have a keyboard thats lasted me 30 years now 🤣
That's actually impressive. You must have cared well for it!
Pen and paper = maximum privacy = maximum security.
Imagine all the encryption possibilities! You could send your private keys encrypted and handwritten on the back of a postcard, for example... (don't)
I could do that! (I definitely will not)
I wholeheartedly agree.
Been using fountains for a couple years now.
Love them. I'm probably due for an upgrade.
I haven’t seen one of those for so long. I hope I can get one.
I'm all in on refillable fountain pens. I hate waste.
I like a fine Platinum Preppy over the safari.
They're certainly nicer than a Bic, but I've not used one yet. I like the look of the Lamy pens better and the Al-Stars are a much nicer material than both the Preppy and Safari.
I might need to try a Preppy just to see how it writes.
Yes the body not as nice as safari but writes smooth. It came with ink already so not sure how it will write with other ink
The Al-Star comes with an ink cartridge, but I swapped them out for converters. I'm big on bottled ink.
