I watched my first zombie movie when I was 13 I think. I only recently stopped intrusive thoughts of what I'd do in a sudden zombie apocalypse when I was in a new place. I still have to play Minecraft with the zombies sounds edited to be a different sound. Whenever I start really watching zombie shit again, the nightmares start coming back.

2010ish era was terrible because everything was zombies  Zombie games, zombie books, zombie movies. They were even making zombie romances and zombie heart throbs. I'm glad we're largely over the obsession, for now

 I think they were trying to hit that vampire hype which peaked with Twilight. Vampires can be much more interesting and complex though. The whole point of zombies is not being sentient.
That being said like you mentioned, TWD is going strong and idk of any ongoing vampire shit. Zombies must be doing something right.

 I know how that is with the intrusive thoughts , mine are centered around having a seizure , slightest muscle twitch use to cause  a panic attack , medication and exposure therapy has helped me alot ,but every now and again I still have bad days were my brain wont shut the fuck up.
