i made most of our gifts last Christmas. one of them was alder smoked rosemary salt. which is a fancy way of saying i took kosher flake salt, put it in a big cast iron dutch oven, put a can of alder branch pieces in the can, let them burn a bit, and closed the lid. mixed the salt, then did it again. like 5 times. then i put all the salt in a container with a bunch of fresh rosemary sprigs. not the store bought stuff, the stuff where you walk over and break it off the bush, and the smell stays on your hands for a day or two. then let it sit for a week or two, shaking the whole thing every day for good measure.
then seal it up in small canning jars.
when you open the jars, the smell of alder smoke and rosemary fills the room. apparently, the salt made the rounds and now people are hitting me up to buy it. so it looks like im in the part time salt business now. 🤷🧂
My self sovereign man👊🏽

thank you very much for the compliment. you meant it, so its meaningful 👍
Could have gone to the supermarket! I'm joking, that's a great gift. We spent similar amounts of energy, time and effort making foody gifts, but you could sense the underwhelming appreciation of an 8 oz jar "of love" was revealed and quickly plonked behind a pile of newly unwrapped Playstations, perfumes from Paris and shit from the local bazaar.
